Chinese companies have gradually developed into powerful global investors. Over the past decade, Chinese investors have experienced brief dips in enthusiasm due to government calls to reduce irrational investment and disruptions from factors such as geopolitics and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) predicts that China's overseas direct investment (ODI) will still increase further in the next decade. In the current volatile geopolitical context, overseas expansion has become increasingly important. It can help Chinese companies cope with trade restrictions and obtain necessary materials and technologies. It also allows China to strengthen relations with other countries, especially non-Western countries.

The "China Going Global Investment Index" uses the EIU's economic forecasts and risk assessment indicators to demonstrate both the quantifiable aspects of China's overseas investment strategic decisions and a systematic approach to identifying opportunities and risks. Businesses can identify the most suitable investment destinations based on their specific investment objectives. The latest index points out that the ranking of emerging markets among major overseas investment destinations has increased significantly, some of the most obvious ones include Thailand, Indonesia, Egypt, Colombia, and Mexico.

AmCham Shanghai Trade & Investment Center cordially invites you to our Outbound Investment Series: China Going Global Investment Index (Chinese Session), which will be on April 25 (Thursday), 1:45-3:15pm. A principal economist from EIU will provide you with a detailed interpretation of the current trends of Chinese companies, their preferred destinations for overseas investment, both opportunities and risks for investing in different regions.
