AmCham Shanghai's Human Resources Committee is pleased to announce an upcoming session on the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on Thursday, July 6. The event will take place in AmCham Shanghai Conference Room from 3:30-5:00 p.m.


Recognizing the significant impact of DEI on modern organizations, this session aims to tap into the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and shed light on the strategies employed by leading companies to promote these values.


Esteemed DEI leaders, including Roman Matla, Director, APAC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of Google, Curtis Baker, Regional Inclusion & Diversity Lead at Dow Chemical, and Sophia Wang, All in Diversity & Inclusion Lead at Mckinsey will join the discussion and share how they apply global DEI strategies in local settings, measure effectiveness, and highlight the importance of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) in achieving DEI goals. The discussion will be moderated by Lillian Lv, Market HR Lead, Mainland China and Hongkong at Google and Vice Chair of AmCham Shanghai's HR Committee.

    Regional Inclusion & Diversity Lead at Dow Chemical

    Curtis Baker is the Asia Pacific Regional Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) and Employee Experience (EX) leader. In this combined role, Curtis is responsible for driving and implementing the Inclusion & Diversity + Employee Experience strategy and providing expertise, consultation and support to business, functional, and ERG leaders and EX change champions in the region. Collaborating with the businesses and functions on inclusion and employee experience interventions that lead to measurable results and long-term culture change, he also manages relationship support for I&D + EX partnerships and represent Dow externally consistent with the region’s outreach and thought leadership initiatives.

    Curtis obtained a B.A. in Public Relations from Murray State University, KY. After a 7-year career in the music industry in Nashville, TN, he relocated to Orlando, FL shifting careers to private education through the admissions teams and international student programs. In 2013, ready for a new adventure, Curtis relocated to China to work with The Walt Disney Company China within the HR Talent Acquisition team.

    His diversity and inclusion journey started as Curtis was the founder of the DisneyPRIDE Greater China (LGBTQ+ ERG) at both The Walt Disney Company Greater China and at Shanghai Disneyland Resort while also an active member of the Diversity & Inclusion Team for North Asia. This was the first ERG for Disney in the Asia Pacific region. He later moved to Shanghai Disney Resort as the Diversity & Inclusion lead prior to joining Dow.

    Curtis previously served on the ShanghaiPRIDE Executive Leadership team for three years helping to launch the first Out & Equal Roundtable in China in 2018 and continues to serve on the Out & Equal China Business Council. He holds a Diversity and Inclusion for HR certification from Cornell University. Curtis has been living in China for the past 9 years and finds the Asia Pacific region his new home.

    Roman Matla is Director, APAC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Google. Roman’s professional career spans over 24 years in a variety of Technology, Human Capital and Business Analysis leadership roles within the investment banking, mining and resources and technology industries across North America and the Asia Pacific region.

    In August 2020, Roman joined Google as APAC Director of Diversity and Employee Engagement based in Singapore. In this role, Roman and his team are responsible for delivering a globally aligned yet regionally tailored DEI strategy and set of initiatives that support Google’s business opportunities around the region.

She held an executive MBA degree from Hongkong University and before Google she was with Microsoft in different functions. In spare time, Lillian is a professional coach(ICF PCC) and has had extensive coaching experience across different industries.
