China has always enjoyed significant inbound investment from multinational companies (MNC). With recent shutdowns spurred by Omicron outbreaks, the attractiveness of China as an investment destination is at risk. How are MNCs doing in China after three-months of reduced or closed-loop operations? Will increased uncertainty reduce inbound investment, or even push some MNCs to exit?

Despite the challenges, we continue to see MNCs in China expanding their operations. Some are reaching across sectors or integrating more closely with their suppliers. In particular, automotive suppliers see China as fertile ground to make acquisitions, test new business models, or find new partners as part of their global electrification strategy. At the same time, some MNCs in other industries are pursuing an exit strategy or carving out their China operations.

AmCham Shanghai Trade & Investment Center together with Dentons invites you to join us on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, from 15:00 to 16:30 for a Zoom briefing on the latest trends of cross-border M&A in the post lock-down era.

Professional teams from Dentons and KPMG will jointly deliver an in-depth analysis of the latest cross-border M&A market involving MNCs in China. Mark Harrison and Thomas Bailey from KPMG will present on the latest trends of cross-border M&A activities in China with a focus on inbound investment in the electric vehicle supply chain. Paula Yu from Dentons Shanghai will analyze the legal issues in MNC carve-out deals and share her latest deal experiences.
