AmCham Shanghai's Art & Culture Committee invites you to an art talk on Oct. 29 from6:30 pm-8:00 pm at Showcase 2, 3-4F, TX Huaihai Youth Energy Center. The art talk will feature famous comic artist Tango Gao, better known as Tango in his comic works.


Tango is known for his talent at capturing the oddities of modern life with minimal pen strokes. His drawings have a simple, fluent, and funny style, with a humor that is both obvious and spontaneous. Tango's works and the simple joys they bring have been an inspiration to many to find smaller moments of joy in their daily lives. Tango's work has been widely exhibited in Mainland China and Hong Kong, as well as in Japan, Korea, Singapore, the US, France and Belgium. He is a major contributor to a new genre of art in China, "Therapeutic Comics." He is also one of the most active comic artists on social media, with about 1.5 million followers on Weibo and more than 200,000 followers on Instagram.


During the talk, Tango will speak about how he uses a modern artistic language to represent Chinese culture and traditions.

上海美国商会艺术文化委员会有幸邀请到著名漫画艺术家Tango先生为我们讲述他独特的漫画世界,以及他如何用现代的笔触表述中国的传统文化和生活。Tango的漫画简洁流畅而有趣,有着天然的幽默。他的漫画令读者感到即使最为庸常的生活也充满细小的乐趣。Tango的作品曾在中国、日本、新加坡以及美国、法国、比利时等多地展出。

    After graduating from the School of Mathematics at Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tango Gao, a native Shanghainese, pursued his dream of drawing by completing a major in Industrial Design at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University. During the day, his name is Youjun Gao and runs an advertisement company; at night, he is a comic artist called Tango who captures the oddities of modern life with minimal pen strokes.

    Tango was a Golden Dragon Award nominee of the 11th China Animation & Comic Competition and was awarded the Best Yixi Speaker of the year in 2014. In 2019, his installation The First Tear was unveiled in Echigo-Tsumari, Japan in 2019.
