AmCham Shanghai Suzhou Center and the US China Business Council are pleased to invite you join us for a half year review on China in 2020 and an overview of challenges and solutions for business leaders compared to other markets on July 24, from 2:00-4:00pm. The talk will focus on impact of the epidemic on China's 2021 goal and how China's approaches will influence business operations, especially China's current economic status, issues faced by key industries and current US economic climate.

    Zhexin Zhang

    PhD, research fellow at Charhar Institute

    Dr. Zhang is a research fellow at the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), and a non-resident fellow at the Charhar Institute of China. His research focuses on East Asian geopolitics, U.S.-China relations, and China’s diplomacy. He is Deputy Editor of the China Quarterly of International Strategic Studies and an editorial board member of the Journal of Political Marketing. He was a visiting fellow at the Henry L. Stimson Center in 2011 and at Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in 2016.

    Mary Boyd is responsible for program development and client servicing in Shanghai. She also provides research and conceptual support on China for Economist Corporate Network program. Before joining the Economist Group Mary Boyd was in the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, serving on assignment in Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and China (in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing). Since leaving government service she has researched and published on economic development and governance issues in China, and has undertaken consultancy work for the World Bank and other international institutions, as well as multinational companies. She has written for a number of Economist Intelligence Unit publications, including Country Report, China Hand and Business China. She co-authored the Economist Intelligence Unit report: Taking on the Competition: Domestic Companies in China.

    Jeff is APCO Worldwide Managing Director in its Shanghai office, and leads on client engagement, business development, business operations and service delivery.

    He was previously the Managing Director of China-Britain Business Council in China, where he led teams helping UK business and stakeholders enter and grow in China, and managed relations with the China and UK government across China. Jeff has lived and worked in China for 12 years and worked in the APAC region for 20 years.

    His career has spanned international trade development, marketing, communications, finance and corporate strategy roles. He began in the media industry, which culminated in being the launch marketing director for a UK national broadcast network and then strategic advisor to UK and European broadcasters. He later moved into consultancy, strategic advisory, advocacy and partnership development in Asia for various trade bodies, businesses and government institutions across the region.

    He has postgraduate degrees in marketing (UWE Bristol Business School) and global business (Oxford University, Said Business School), and he is a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) and Chartered Marketer (MCIM).
