Global value chains are undergoing an important structural shift and becoming much more regional. This is led largely by the rise in demand of countries like China, who are consuming much more of the goods they produce, and the expansion of their domestic supply chains. Consequently, flows of services and data are becoming increasingly important in the global economy over trade in goods. This will have a large impact on multinationals companies across a variety of sectors whose business requires them moving goods across borders.

To contextualize what this shift means for American companies in China, AmCham Shanghai and the Global Supply Chain Council will hold a workshop from 3:00 to 5:30 pm on April 29 at the AmCham Shanghai offices. The session will begin with a presentation by McKinsey Global Institute Senior Fellow Jeongmin Seong of his recent report "Globalization in Transition: The Future of Trade and Value Chains" followed by a presentation by UCO.com COO Long Wong on the cross-border e-commerce supply chain for cosmetics. Afterwards, both speakers will join 4PX PMO Director Jessie Kan and Tidal Wave Solutions Partner Cameron Johnson to discuss the broad shifts they are seeing in their supply chains.

This event is an AmCham Shanghai Government Policy Support (GPS) workshop. The GPS series brings together different voices to deep-dive into Chinese government policy and its effects on American companies in China. In 2019 the program is focused across three tracks: U.S.-China Relations; Supply Chains; and R&D and Innovation. For more information about the GPS program, please contact Daniel Rechtschaffen at daniel.rechtschaffen@amcham-shanghai.org. This program is off record, and seating is limited.
