In early November, the United States will have one of the most consequential Presidential elections in modern history. The results will impact every part of American policy, especially that toward Beijing. US-China relations began the year positively enough. A phase one agreement put a floor under a worsening fracas, and despite some collateral damage from the trade war, both economies seemed healthy and ready to engage. Then COVID-19 crippled the world, and thus began the sharpest free-fall of the bilateral relationship in decades. The consensus in Washington has hardened against Beijing and the question now is will there be a major shift in the relationship or is it too late to turn back the tide of decoupling and competition?

AmCham Shanghai will bring together some of the most prominent China specialists for its Government Affairs Conference on November 13 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This is one of Shanghai's premier conferences on the regulatory and economic trends impacting American companies in China and it will feature former Australia Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, former Deputy USTR Tim Stratford, Jinan University International Relations Professor Dingding Chen, The Economist Intelligence Unit Principal Economist Yue Su, and CEIBS Professor Guo Bai, among others. The experts will examine what U.S.-China relations could look like in a post-election , post COVID-19 world. The conference will also feature sessions on China's domestic economy and how businesses are weathering increased tensions.
