The current U.S.-China relationship stands at a critical juncture. After decades of muted grumbling over Chinese market practices, the U.S. has drawn a red line. The Trump Administration's China policy has become more sharply defined, and it is increasingly clear that numerous deep-rooted problems in the bilateral economic engagement threaten the future of U.S.-China relations. Whether China will reform and open its economy remains to be seen, but for now Beijing and Washington have hunkered down. The incipient trade war seems likely to balloon into protracted and searing conflict. It goes without saying that learning to effectively manage and leverage government engagement in the coming year will be critical know-how to American businesses in China.

To help our members better understand where the bilateral relationship and China's economic reform prospects stand, as well as to instruct our members on best GA practices in this age of conflict, the AmCham Shanghai cordially invites you to our annual Government Affairs Conference, to be held December 13 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm in the 5th-floor ballroom at the JW Marriott at Tomorrow Square. The session will begin with a morning of high-level strategic talks on the U.S.-China relationship and Chinese economic reform and opening prospects, and will be led by a series of respected China academics, journalists, and business leaders. The afternoon will feature a series of workshops instructing on best practices for GR professionals in China. Attendees may join either session or the full day.
