The City of Sacramento in partnership with the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development and the US Commercial service is hosting a webinar to discuss protecting IP in the China market. Speakers for this event include IP Counselor for the US Embassy in Beijing Duncan Wilson, Partner at Lewis Brisbois Joshua D. Curry, Associate Professor of IP law at Southwest University of Political Science and Law Zheng Zhong, and Partner at Deheng Law Office Dr. Hui (Harrisson) Jia.

    Partner at Lewis Brisbois

    Joshua D. Curry is a partner in the Atlanta office of Lewis Brisbois and a vice-chair of the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. Josh serves as lead counsel in patent, intellectual property, and technology litigation cases and is a registered patent attorney. An experienced litigator with a physics degree and considerable technical expertise, Josh helps clients effectively achieve their business goals when enforcing and defending their IP rights. He has served in IP leadership positions, been highly ranked by peers and publications, and represented clients in all phases of litigation and a wide range of technologies in courts and proceedings throughout the United States.

    Duncan Willson

    IP Counselor at US Embassy - Beijing

    Duncan Wilson promotes U.S. stakeholder interests by advocating for improvements in China’s protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR),including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. In addition, Mr. Willson serves as a resource for U.S. individuals and businesses in regard to IPRconcerns in China. Prior to his appointment as IP attaché, Mr. Willson was an attorney advisor in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Office of Policy andInternational Affairs, where he handled policy matters relating to IP issues in China. His responsibilities included developing and negotiating U.S. positions on IPmatters on behalf of the U.S. government; advising the U.S. government and business community on legal developments in China that impact the protection andenforcement of IP in that country; and designing and supervising technical assistance to the Chinese government in regard to IP. Most recently, Mr. Willson wasdetailed to the Office of the U.S. IP Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC), where he advised the IPEC and White House officials on the IP components to strategic policiesand trade-related matters, in addition to providing his expertise on Chinese IP laws, policies, and practices.

    Zheng Zhong

    Associate Professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law

    Zheng Zhong, LL.D, is Associate Professor of intellectual property law at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, China. She is the head of the English course Intellectual Property Law which is awarded as the Chongqing “Brand Courses for International Students in English”. She published her English academic monographs Taking Private Use Seriously: A Critical Evaluation of the Legal Treatment of Private Use under Chinese Digital Copyright Law (Frankfurt am Main: Peter Lang GmbH, 2013). She also holds the position of council member of Intellectual Property Law Research Association of the Chongqing Law Society, expert advisory member of the Fifth Branch of Chongqing People’s Procuratorate, member of the Legal Advisory Committee of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and mediator of Chongqing Foreign-related Intellectual Property Mediation Centre.
