AmCham Shanghai Financial Services Committee (FSC) invites you to our Monthly China Economy webinar on Thursday, September 5 from 8:30 am - 9:30 am, to be held via Zoom Meeting.


The executive briefing is targeted at the on-the-ground senior corporate decision-maker. The webinar will start with a review of the recent month's key economic indicators and their strategy implications for multinationals. This will be followed by a deeper dive into select China policy announcements with regards to their economic and geopolitical dimensions. The session will conclude with upcoming events or developments to watch.


The FSC is the Chamber's committee for members interested in and involved with financial services. It provides an off-the-record forum for discussion of relevant topics spanning banking, securities, insurance, asset management, venture capital/private equity, corporate finance, and fintech.


Han Shen Lin, is an Associate Professor of Practice in Finance at NYU Shanghai, China Country Director at The Asia Group (TAG), a D.C.-based corporate strategy consultancy, and AmCham Shanghai Financial Services Committee Chair. Special guest Ambassador Kurt Tong, Managing Partner, The Asia Group, will join to share insights on the U.S. election mood and potential implications on U.S.-China commercial relations depending on the election outcome. All participants are encouraged to share their thoughts and observations.

    Han Shen Lin is the China Country Director at The Asia Group. Based in Shanghai, Han works in close coordination with TAG’s Washington, DC-based China Practice to lead the firm’s local presence and engagements in China, drawing upon nearly 20 years of in-country experience in China’s financial markets and corporate strategy. In addition to his role at TAG, Han is also an Associate Professor of Practice in Finance at NYU Shanghai where he teaches undergraduate, graduate and executive-level courses.

    Before his current roles, Han was the Deputy General Manager of Wells Fargo Bank in China where he served in a governance and risk management capacity as a member of the Asia-Pacific Governance Committee and interim China Country Manager. Han also led the China Corporate Banking business, which advised Wells Fargo multinational clients on their U.S.-China cross-border strategic financing needs. Other positions held include Asia-Pacific Head of Financial Institutions USD Product Sales, Senior China Coverage Banker in the Financial Institutions Group (FIG), and corporate strategic projects lead.

    Han holds advanced degrees, including an MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, an MS in Global Finance from HKUST-NYU Stern, and an LLM in China Civil and Commercial Law from Fudan University Law School. He completed his undergraduate degree in business (BBA) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

    Han is active in the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, having served on the Board of Governors (4 years) and serving as the current Chair of the Chamber’s Financial Services Committee. He previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps (Indo-Pacific), and the Peace Corps (Ukraine). Han lives in Shanghai with his wife and two daughters. He is frequently quoted in global media outlets including the Financial Times, BBC, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, South China Morning Post, and the Nikkei Asia.

    Ambassador Kurt Tong is Managing Partner at The Asia Group.

    Prior to joining The Asia Group, Ambassador Tong served as Consul General and Chief of Mission in Hong Kong and Macau. Ambassador Tong also served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs at the State Department, the agency’s most senior career diplomat handling economic affairs, from 2014 to 2016. He was Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo from 2011 to 2014.

    Prior to these positions, Ambassador Tong served as Ambassador for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2011, leading the U.S. chairmanship of the organization during one of the most productive periods for APEC.

    Ambassador Tong holds a B.A. from The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs and studied economics at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute.
