The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai's Sports & Entertainment Committee and Future Leaders Committee, together with the New Zealand Business Roundtable in China (NZBRiC), jointly invite you to an event exploring high performance, leadership, and building winning teams with Liam Sceats, Kiwi racing car driver and New Zealand Grand Prix Champion, on Wednesday, September 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Chamber office.


Together with Liam, our guest speakers Shane McConigly, Executive Leadership Coach & Performance Coach at CreateLeap; Alan MacCharles, Senior Director of Executive Education and Lifelong Learning at Duke Kunshan University; and Aki Yang, Director of Corporate Services at WildChina, will join the panel to explore the principles behind high-performing teams and effective leadership, drawing practical lessons from elite sport and giving the next generation of leaders direct access to an inspiring peer competing on the world stage. The discussion will be moderated by Zarko Krkeljas, Athletic Director at Duke Kunshan University.

    Kiwi Racing Car Driver & New Zealand Grand Prix Champion

    Liam Sceats is one of New Zealand’s most promising young racing drivers, proudly carrying forward the country’s rich motorsport legacy.

    From karting in Auckland at the age of six, Liam quickly rose through the ranks of New Zealand motorsport before stepping onto the international stage. Victories and podium finishes across New Zealand, the United States, and Asia have established him as a driver to watch.

    In 2024, Liam captured one of the country’s most prestigious motorsport achievements, winning the New Zealand Grand Prix.

    Now competing internationally, Liam continues to build a career with the ambition of becoming New Zealand’s next global motorsport success story.

    Off the track, Liam works closely with partners and supporters to create meaningful collaborations, corporate experiences, and opportunities that extend beyond racing.

    Alan Matthew MacCharles joined Duke Kunshan University in November 2024 as Senior Director of Executive Education and Lifelong Learning. In this role, he supports program design for corporate clients, ensures the appropriate faculty are involved in delivery and ensures client objectives are met and expectations exceeded.

    Prior to joining DKU, he had a career spanning almost 28 years with Deloitte in Canada, the United Kingdom and China. The last 18 years were in China, where he was a Strategy and M&A partner. He specialized in advising clients on the appropriate responses to geopolitical (and other) issues and joint venture formation.

    Alan has a BA from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from London Business School (2001) and a DBA from Cranfield University (2022).

    He is the co-author of Unlocking International Joint Ventures: Keys to Formation Success through Cultural, Commercial, and Legal Decision-Making, written with Mark Schaub, a lawyer at King & Wood through Wiley. The book provides a mix of academic research, practical ‘how-to’ guides and case studies. He has also published a case study on hiring advisors through Ivey Publishing with Paul Beamish and Mark Schaub (case W27041), which is available in English, Mandarin and Spanish.

    Alan has been an active contributor to the discussion on corporate responses with articles in Fortune and the Shanghai American Chamber Magazine (co-written with Dr. Ken Dewoskin) and through contributions to major media outlets.

    Over the last 20 years, Zarko held variety of positions in the USA, South Korea, and South Africa, building sport performance programs, and bridging gaps between sport industry and education.

    Leveraging his global experience Zarko is currently overseeing the development of Athletics Program at Duke Kunshan University including building of sport facilities and ensuring programs’ strategic alignment with US and China departments of education. As such, Duke Kunshan Athletics aims to become a platform for integrating educational programs and opportunities with various sectors of sports, fitness, and wellness industry in China and abroad.
