AmCham Shanghai's Financial Services Committee (FSC) will host S&P Global Ratings for a deep dive into sovereign ratings on Monday, May 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m in the AmCham Shanghai conference room.


During the event, our featured speakers from S&P Global Ratings Roberto Sifon-Arevalo, Managing Director, Global Head of Analytics and Research Sovereign & International Public Finance Ratings and Kim Eng Tan, Managing Director, Sovereign & International Public Finance Ratings will discuss the uncertainties that impact sovereign ratings including borrowing costs, upcoming elections and shifting geopolitical tensions.

    Assistant Professor of Practice in Finance at NYU Shanghai, and Senior Advisor at The Asia Group (TAG)

    Han Lin is an Assistant Professor of Finance at NYU Shanghai. In addition, Han is the China Senior Advisor to The Asia Group (TAG) drawing upon nearly 20 years of in-country experience in China’s financial markets and corporate strategy.

    Prior to his current positions, Han was the Deputy General Manager of Wells Fargo Bank, China, where he served as Interim Country Manager and a member of the Management Control Committee, which oversaw the bank’s China governance and risk management. Han also led the China Corporate Banking business, which advised Wells Fargo MNC clients on their U.S.-China cross-border strategic financing and trade needs. Earlier bank roles included Asia Financial Institutions Payments Product Sales Manager; Senior Coverage Banker in the China Financial Institutions Group (FIG); and corporate strategic projects analyst.

    Han holds advanced degrees, including an MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, an MS in Global Finance from HKUST-NYU Stern, and an LLM in China Civil and Commercial Law from Fudan University Law School. He completed his undergraduate degree in business (BBA) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

    Han is active in the American Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai, having served on the Board of Governors and as a former Chair of the Chamber’s Financial Services Committee. He previously served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and Peace Corps (RCPV Ukraine). Han lives in Shanghai with his wife and two daughters.

    Roberto is Managing Director and Global Head of Analytics and Research for Sovereign and International Public Finance Ratings (IPF).

    In this role, he leads a team of senior specialists based in New York, London, Madrid, Stockholm, Mexico City, & Singapore that monitors ratings on sovereigns, sub sovereigns and multilateral and development financial institutions throughout the world. Prior to that, he was the head of the Sovereign and IPF ratings group for the Americas and the Caribbean managing the team’s
    analytical efforts in the region.

    Roberto’s work experience, before joining S&P in 2003 as
    a sovereign ratings analyst, includes several analytical
    positions at Banco Santander and Banco Sudameris in
    Argentina.

    He holds a degree in Business Administration from the
    Universidad de Belgrano, in Argentina, and a Master’s
    Degree in International Affairs, specializing in International
    Economic Policy, from Columbia University in New York.

    Managing Director, Sovereign and International Public Finance Ratings of S&P Global Ratings

    Eng Tan is the Managing Director for the Sovereign Ratings team in Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore, he leads the sovereign team’s analytical and outreach activities in the region. He is S&P Global Ratings main spokesperson for sovereign ratings in Asia-Pacific. He is also a member of the global sovereign criteria committee that is responsible for methodology enhancements and evaluating methodology-related issues relevant to sovereign ratings.

    Before joining S&P Global Ratings, Kim Eng was an economist in the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. At the MAS, he was a money market manager responsible for implementing foreign exchange policy and money market operations as well as development of the Singapore government securities market.

    Kim Eng holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honors) from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a Master’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, UK.
