Pengchong (PC) Xu is an expert of the licensing industry and has extensive experience and insight on the development of the ancillary business development in China. In such a rapidly changing market, his broad business perspective and innovative business strategies have achieved extraordinary results. He built up an all-star licensing team and oversees all aspects of business operations and development of the ancillary department at ODW, including promotion & partnership, consumer products, publishing, Interactive and location based entertainment.
China’s film industry is booming, with content production, film marketing & distribution, and cinema numbers all racing ahead. However, the ancillary business, as a critical part of the film industry chain, still has much room for development. This is where ODW has established a solid foundation. Under the leadership of PC, ODW strategically cooperated with top domestic brands from various industries, e-commerce platforms, and brick-and-mortar retailers and created a grand vision for all-media and multi-industry ancillary development and joint-marketing around the IP of “Kung Fu Panda” (KFP). Related industries include FMCG, automobile, finance, retail, and theme parks. The cross-border cooperation between ODW and its partners generated almost RMB 1.5 billion of promotional and marketing value, and the ancillary business retail sales surpassed RMB 1 billion, equal to KFP3’s box office earnings. KFP3’s ancillary business become an industry benchmark. Besides commercial success, KFP3’s ancillary business leads the industry’s innovation in development prospective, product relevance and product variety, and at the same time push the whole industry forward.
Being one of the most seasoned veterans in China’s licensing related industries, PC used to work as a Senior Category Manager (toys and consumer electronics) at Disney, where he built up a solid base for the toys business development and tripled the company’s CE growth rate within two years. Prior to that, PC worked as the Global Senior Product Marketing Manager at Philips, responsible for the company’s mobile phone business in Greater China, India and the Middle East. Earlier in his career, PC worked at Siemens as a National Product Marketing Manager, leading the development and implementation of marketing strategies for the company’s products in China.
PC holds an MBA from BI Norwegian Business School and a BA from Zhejiang University.
